Does Base have a token?
No. Base does not have a token.
Coinbase has said it is exploring one, but nothing has launched and no date has been committed to.
Checked . This page is maintained by hand — if it goes stale, the timeline below shows the last thing we recorded.
There is nothing to claim. No snapshot, no eligibility rule, no claim page. Any site offering a Base token claim, and any message telling you to connect a wallet to receive one, is a phishing attempt. That will stay true until Base announces otherwise on its own channels.
What has actually been said
Every public statement we have recorded, newest first.
Base sets its 2026 focus on trading, payments and AI agents
Jesse Pollak outlined a strategy shift toward onchain trading, payments and AI agents after onchain social apps drew less adoption than the team hoped. No token announcement accompanied it.
hokanewsBeryl upgrade activates, introducing the B20 token standard
B20 is a token standard — a format contracts use to issue tokens on Base, comparable to ERC-20. It is not a Base network token, and the two are easy to confuse.
Crowdfund InsiderBase outlines a year focused on tokenized markets and stablecoins
The roadmap centred on tokenized markets, stablecoins and developer growth rather than a network token.
CoinDeskPollak says Base is exploring a native token
“beginning to explore”
The original statement, and still the furthest the team has gone publicly. Base said at the time it had no definitive plans to share. Pollak framed any token around full decentralisation and aligning builders as economic participants, and said it would be issued on Ethereum with regulators involved in the distribution.

Why it has not happened
- Coinbase is a publicly traded company under SEC oversight, which constrains how it could issue or distribute a token in ways private crypto companies are not constrained.
- No snapshot, eligibility rule or claim process has been announced. Any site telling you to claim a Base token today is a phishing attempt.
- Base runs on ETH for gas and has never needed a token to function, so there is no technical deadline forcing one.

What Base does run on is ETH — see gas on Base and the network details. Incentive programmes run by individual protocols on Base are a separate thing from a Base network token, and none of them confer any claim on one.
